Suicide Risk Trainings
The Jed Foundation is committed to helping campuses best address the needs of at-risk students. As part of this effort, we have launched a national initiative to provide free trainings for campus mental health professionals on recognizing and addressing suicide risk. The Jed Foundation sponsored the following courses in regional hubs across the country:
- Assessing and Managing Suicide Risk (AMSR)
- Recognizing and Responding to Suicide Risk: Essential Skills for Clinicians (RRSR)
Assessing and Managing Suicide Risk (AMSR) is a one-day workshop that focuses on competencies that are core to assessing and managing suicide risk and is a collaboration between AAS and the Suicide Prevention Treatment Center (SPRC). The program includes: pre-workshop reading materials; 6.5 hours of training, comprised of an engaging mix of lecture and exercises; a 110-page participant manual, including an extensive bibliography and other valuable resources; journaling throughout the day; and time for discussion. Seven AMSR courses have been sponsored by The Jed Foundation in Philadelphia, PA; Colorado Springs, CO; Chapel Hill, NC; San Francisco, CA; Columbia, MO, Houston TX, and Tuscaloosa, AL. Learn more about AMSR trainings from SPRC.
Recognizing and Responding to Suicide Risk: Essential Skills for Clinicians (RRSR) is a two-day course developed by the American Association of Suicidology (AAS). RRSR is an advanced, interactive training based on established core competencies that mental health professionals need in order to effectively assess and manage suicide risk. The program includes a web-based assessment; two on-line, self-paced modules; a two-day face-to-face workshop; and post-workshop mentorship through on-line learning activities. Six RRSR courses have been sponsored by The Jed Foundation in Philadelphia, PA; Atlanta, GA; Chicago, IL; Pittsburgh, PA; Miami, FL, and Boston, MA. Learn more about RRSR tranings from AAS.
