Virginia Tech Mental Health Needs Assessment Study

In the aftermath of the tragedy at Virginia Tech, The Jed Foundation provided the initial funding for a study led by Dr. Ron Kessler, Professor of Health Care Policy at Harvard Medical School, of the mental health needs of the school's students and faculty/staff.

Researchers at Virginia Tech, in collaboration with Dr. Kessler and colleagues at UCLA and Duke University, carried out initial needs assessment surveys of both groups in Summer 2007 as well as follow-up surveys in Spring 2008. The study will shed light on how schools can best protect their students and provide support in the aftermath of tragedies.

This study was funded in part through grants from Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, Janssen Pharmaceuticals, and Organon International, Inc.
