Churros for Charity

Thank you to Phi Gamma Delta (FIJI) at William & Mary for organizing this successful Fundraise for JED event.

Here’s what FIJI shared about planning and hosting their event:

We hosted the event Churros for Charities Fundraise for JED event and raised more than $500 for JED. Over 200 students participated in the event and learned about JED and the resources it has to offer.

A group of FIJI chefs made the churros and hot chocolate. We promoted the event on Facebook, Instagram, and groups chats with other campus organizations. We also reached out to JED’s contacts at our counseling center to help spread the word. The day of the event, we brought two cute dogs for people to pet, and it turned out to be a great way to attract customers.

We’re very pleased with the turnout and positive reactions towards the cause, and plan to make Churros for Charities our annual philanthropy!

The World Health Organization defines “mental health” “as a state of well-being in which every individual realizes his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her or his community.” In using this definition, S2i recognizes that some mental health challenges reflect brain diseases that, like physical diseases, require appropriate stigma-free and patient-centered care and include both mental health and substance use disorders. Other mental health challenges stem from social conditions and marginalization and require different forms of interventions.
