Development Manager


Overview of position:

JED is seeking a full-time, self-starting development professional motivated to play a key role in our growing fundraising team to support the expansion of our innovative programs. The position reports to the Chief Development Officer and will be an integral part of the fundraising team. Qualified applicants will have stellar writing and organizational skills, an analytical mind and the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities. This individual will be responsible for a robust annual fund campaign and for managing our small gift donors and prospects.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement growth strategy for JED’s annual fund campaign, with a special emphasis on online giving
  • Manage portfolio of donors, including the identification, cultivation and solicitation of new gifts for annual fund and donors up to $15,000
  • Manage a LYBUNT program for year-round gift renewals
  • Manage consultant grant writer(s) in the drafting and submission of new grant proposals, concept papers and letters of interest, as well as the maintenance of accurate and up-to-date information in JED’s Salesforce database on prospective and awarded grants
  • Manage the renewal process for existing grants, including maintaining an accurate renewals calendar
  • Prepare backgrounders and brief our senior team and board members for donor/prospect meetings
  • Organize compelling funder briefings and coordinate the participation of program staff in funder events and meetings
  • Collaborate on donor stewardship including developing relationships, drafting thank you and appeal letters, and supporting cultivation events
  • Manage reports and ensure up-to-date records in JED’s Salesforce database
  • Provide support for other development team functions, such as event planning and individual giving programs
  • Respond to all development inquiries and provide friendly, donor-centered customer service
  • Assist fundraising and event planning for Annual Gala and other cultivation and stewardship events
  • Work with communications/marketing to develop collateral materials needed for development efforts
  • Assist CDO as needed

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum five years development experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of online fundraising strategies
  • Understanding of peer-to-peer campaigns
  • Experience soliciting annual gifts
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including superior writing, copy editing and proofreading ability
  • High level of independent working ability and initiative, and ability to manage multiple tasks under deadline pressure
  • Superb attention to detail
  • Strong working knowledge of Salesforce or other development databases
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Enjoys and excels working collaboratively on a team
  • Minimum BA/BS required
