Donor Privacy Policy

Overview

The Jed Foundation (JED) respects the privacy of its donors and has put in place a Donor Privacy Policy to honor your rights.

Collection and Use of Information

JED collects and uses personal information such as: name, address, telephone number, email address, birth date, and other demographic information when a donor voluntarily provides it to us. This information is kept on file for IRS purposes to acknowledge your donation and is also used in our development and communication activities.

JED may also collect information about you in connection with your other interactions with JED, such as attendance at JED events, use of JED’s website and digital services, and participation in our academic programs. Such information is governed by the privacy policies covering these activities. Specifically, this Donor Privacy Policy is separate and apart from how we handle information collected through our Academic Programs.

We may also use third-party sources to collect additional information about donors. On occasion, we use third party service providers to process donations for initiatives benefiting JED. We may also verify your personal information with third parties in the course of processing a gift, event registration, or other related donor activity. Name and address information may be used when JED periodically exchanges names and mailing addresses of our donors with other carefully selected organizations in order to build our base of support.

Mandatory Disclosure of Personal Information and Data We May Collect

We may disclose such information and data if we believe that it is necessary to:

  • To comply with a legal obligation including per a valid request by law enforcement or government authority or court order,
  • To protect and defend our rights or property,
  • To prevent or investigate possible wrongdoing in connection with this Website,
  • To protect the personal safety of users of this Website or the public, or
  • To protect against legal liability.

If the Foundation reorganizes or transfers its business, it may transfer any data or information it has collected to the reorganized Foundation.

Applicable Law

This Privacy Policy is governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to any principles of conflicts of law. You agree that any action at law or in equity that arises out of this Policy will be filed only in the state or federal courts located in New York County, New York, and you hereby consent and submit to the personal jurisdiction of such courts for the purposes of litigating any such action. If any provision of this Donor Privacy Policy is found to be invalid by a court having competent jurisdiction, the invalidity of such provision shall not affect the validity of the remaining provisions of this Privacy Policy, which shall remain in full force and effect. Under no circumstances shall The Jed Foundation have any liability whatsoever for any consequential, incidental, indirect, or special damages arising out of the breach of this Donor Privacy Policy, however occasioned.

Changes to This Privacy Policy
