October 29, 2009

mtvU and The Jed Foundation’s Peabody Award-winning Half of Us campaign will honor veterans and active duty servicemen and women this Veterans Day with the premiere of a new series of public service announcements and original programming designed to highlight and support student veterans navigating the combat to college transition.  Recent research conducted for the Half of Us campaign found that nearly two-thirds of college students know someone who has served or is currently serving in Iraq or Afghanistan.

Half of Us elements focused on student veterans include:

Public Service Announcements (Airing on MTV, MTV2 and mtvU)– In partnership with the Bob Woodruff Foundation (reMIND.org), the Half of Us campaign is releasing three new PSAs addressing the emotional struggles college veterans face when returning to campus and how civilian students can play a role in easing that transition.  In addition to an ongoing rotation on mtvU, these public service announcements will be featured on MTV and MTV2 the week of Veterans Day including airings during Return to Duty which premieres on Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at 8 pm ET/PT.  This special features Ryan Conklin who during his time as a cast member of the Real World Brooklyn was called back to Iraq.  Return to Duty follows Ryan as he leaves his loved ones and his home to return to the battlefield.
